Beautiful Lake Koronis, with its three islands, is located in southwestern Stearns County in central Minnesota: 80 miles northwest of Minneapolis on Highway 23 or 55, or 20 miles west of I-94 on Highway 23.
Nestled in the heart of central Minnesota, the Paynesville area has used its charms for thousands of years to attract visitors. The first to come were hunting-and-gathering Indians centuries ago, and now modern man comes by car from the cities and from out of state. These days more and more people are lured to visit and to make our community a permanent destination, especially young families and retirees.
Three lakes are the core of the local tourist trade, particularly during the summer. Rice Lake and Lake Koronis are linked by the North Fork of the Crow River. Long Lake is just west on Highway 23 about 7 miles.
For many, true enjoyment of the lakes comes from their serene beauty, like when the last ray of the sunset reflects across the still waters of summer, or when the bright blue winter sky contrasts with the view of glistening snow and ice. It’s the desire to see these views on a regular basis that helps attract new residents to the area.
We want to provide seniors an opportunity to spend time on our area lakes; which so many have done in the past. Many seniors are unable to get out on the lakes themselves due to lack of income, no equipment, health issues or loss of fishing partners.
Let’s Go Fishing Paynesville Chapter will operate during the summer months starting in the end of May, with trips approximately 2 hours in length. There is no cost to seniors other than a valid MN fishing license if required. Donations will be accepted, but are not required. Trips will be scheduled on a first-come, first-serve basis, and the number of days, seats and trips will depend on the availability of boats or pontoons, and volunteers. The pontoon is typically on Rice Lake between Paynesville and Eden Valley or at Old Wagon Wheel Campground on Long Lake by Hawick. Please let us know at the time of scheduling if you require special arrangements, we will try to accommodate those with physical handicaps or limitations as best we can. Our pontoon is specially designed with higher guard rails, wider door access, and removable captain’s chairs. LGF provides everything needed for an outing, including pontoon, equipment, life preservers, bait, bottled water… and lots of fun!
